In biology, the imago is the last stage an insect attains during its metamorphosis, 
its process of growth and development; it also is called the imaginal stage, the 
stage in which the insect attains maturity:

Butterflies are a familiar example of imaginal cell phenomena --

The DNA of the caterpillar is said to be genetically identical to that of the butterfly .....  
As the caterpillar 'dies', cells called imaginal discs grow and multiply to view the 
world in a different way.  This creative staging produces a beautiful and thriving Life form. 

It has been proposed that every human may be thought of as a cell in the body of the 
organism we know as our world.  And that much like the caterpillar, we can each develop 
imaginal ways to let go of a dying form so our threatened world can thrive again.
